This update really helps to finish up the groundwork for the rest of the game. Major features include the groundwork for dialogue and the story of the game, along with major changes to runes and spell crafting.
MAJOR CHANGES:
- Brand new intro and storyline for the game!
- New tutorial taught by a cute cat, with other new friends to meet as you play!
- New rune proficiency system, where you get better with a rune the more you use it
- Runes are now saved within your spell, and can be swapped at any time
MINOR CHANGES:
- Locked a lot of game mechanics behind a tutorial / flag system so that content is slowly introduced
- Changed the way spell "leveling" works. You may now place up to 3 runes on a spell before you must strengthen it
- Casting spells using Aether now works completely differently and can have a massive range of effects on your spell. Should be fun!
- Brand new knockback system and accompanying knockback rune, if you wanna send your enemies flying
- Overhauled the decoration system, rooms should feel much more realistic now rather than haphazard props strewn everywhere
- Removed crystal ball and revamped clone tank upgrade UI
- Player can now (properly) consume a plane tear rather than use it to send items through for bonus aether
- Reduced starting aether from 50 -> 10
- Reduced starting mana from 20 -> 10
- increased starting spell cooldown from 0.8s -> 1s
- Decreased starting spell damage from 10 -> 8
- Added a lot of new props / decorations
GENERAL STUFF / BUG FIXES
- Dozens and dozens of enemy logic optimizations
- Dozens and dozens of player / system logic optimizations
- New symbol if next room is boss room (and player has divination upgrade)
- Added some juice to a lot of UI elements
- Added a discord button on title menu for joining discord
- Overhauled the spell color generator, not perfect but a bit better
- Fixed a lot of graphical issues with glow
- Fixed some buttons not providing feedback properly
- Fixed a bug that would permanently display a number if you gain health while already at max
- Fixed a bug where enemy archers accuracy would not be calculated correctly
- Updated death animation
- Changed the way end of room rewards spawn, should spawn in a bit cleaner now
- Updated a lot of colors for wood to be consistent
- Fixed some graphical layering issues
- Overhauled aether particle look
- Enemies now break decorations if they spawn on top of them
- Brand new animation / logic for consuming rune slabs
- Switched spell augment menu from old icon to just text, accessible via inventory
- Fire particles are now brighter
- Clone tank now closes after player clone gets out of it (gotta start growing the next one !)
- Redid a lot of assets colors for consistency purposes
- Fixed a bug that would let you stockpile even if you dont have enough aether
- Reduced defense for heavy melee enemy from 3 -> 1
- Removed defense for heavy ranged and light melee enemies
- Sounds can now be properly muted
- And im sure a dozen other things I forgot / didnt write down properly but oh well!
